Recently, I have been giving more thought to to-do lists—the seemingly never-ending list and the frustration of rarely feeling finished.
I noticed this while walking past a small entryway table in my home. I thought, I’d like to paint that, brighten it up a bit.Instinctively, I added it to my list—and immediately felt the weight of everything already there.
Then a lightbulb moment: this wasn’t a to-do. It was an idea.
I realized I hadn’t been distinguishing clearly between to-dos, ideas, goals, and tasks. Everything had been lumped together into one heavy list. No wonder it was wearing me out.
I reframed the way I look at my lists. One change was adding a Ta-Da list—a list that, by its very nature, builds energy and carries satisfaction with it.
Some days the most important thing on my list is noticing what I’ve already done.
