I started thinking about some of the little things in my life that trigger happiness. I love lavender — it is definitely a happiness trigger for me. I love the flavor, the scent, and lavender fields — well, they are dreamy. Some mornings, I enjoy a little lavender syrup in my coffee; it feels special, like an invitation to just breathe and dream of lavender fields.
The first sighted daffodil of spring. The happy little faces of pansies. The chance to sit on the porch swing and enjoy the stillness, punctuated by the birds. Now that I think about it, the little happiness triggers are their own kind of punctuation… sometimes a comma, a pause to remember, sometimes an exclamation point — celebrate, maybe even a question mark — be curious.
Even in my hardest seasons, there are little prompts for happiness: a child’s laughter, comforting memories, dreams for a new season.
Believing it is true that we find more of what we look for, and that gratitude is good for the spirit, keeping track of these little things helps keep life in perspective.
Maybe happiness is just punctuation in the day — little sparks to pause, celebrate, and be curious.
